AUST Hosts Creme Quintessence School Students

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, recently hosted 62 high-school students and 5 teachers from Crème Quintessence Nursery, Primary, and High School, Lokogoma, Abuja.
The students were in AUST to acquaint themselves of the new order in the world of higher education, exposure to scientific concepts and experimental learning outside the traditional classroom setting so as to enhance their understanding through hands-on.

Mrs Nsima Joseph, the Students Affairs Coordinator welcomed the touring students on behalf of the Acting President, Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, who was unavoidably occupied during the very exciting students visit.

She thanked the management, staff and students of Creme Quintessence for identifying with AUST and promised on behalf of the Acting President to make their stay very eventful and exciting.

The program started with an introduction of AUST staff which was made by Mrs Nsima Joseph  followed quickly by the introduction of students and staff of Crème Quintessence Nursery, Primary, and High School, by their Head Teacher, Mrs. Adeleye Ruth Feyisayo.

Mrs. Joseph then gave a brief overview of AUST, emphasizing its commitment to science and technology education. Subsequently, representatives from the various units in the university delivered informative presentations.

Those who presented includes, Mrs. Buchi Ekpolomo, the Chief Librarian, who shared valuable insights into the wide range of resources available at the University library,  Ms. Sonia Obi, from the Admission Unit, talked about the admission requirements at AUST,  Mr. Iloka Chidera, representing the Media Unit, also gave an insight on the media services available on campus.

The visiting students later on embarked on a tour of the campus which took them to the university’s gym, shop, lecture rooms, AUSTinspire incubation center, the AfDB ultra modern laboratories,where the students were engaged in a diverse range of experiments, such as Water rising, Solar energy generation and application, Size reduction, Crushers, and Microscopy among others. Dr. Vitalis Anye, the Head of the Materials Science Department, also demonstrated the functionality of the 3D printer, showcasing its capabilities to the students.

At the conclusion of the event, two students were commended by the AUST Coordinator of Student Affairs for their exemplary conduct by adoning complete neat uniforms and consistently wearing their ID cards throughout the duration of the event.
