CSEA, AUST, BU And NDPC hold Data Protection Conference.
The Center for the Study of Economies of Africa (CSEA), in collaboration with the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Baze University, and the National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) successfully hosted a two-day workshop on "Harnessing Data Governance for National and Regional Development" at the CSEA Conference Hall in Abuja.
The event, which took place from July 22 to July 23, 2024, brought together data experts, regulators, lawyers, users, and researchers to discuss the critical importance of data governance. The workshop highlighted the vital role of data in various aspects of life and emphasized the need for a comprehensive understanding of data policy, digital growth, and data governance.
Dr. Chukwuemeka Uwanaka chaired a key panel session, featuring a notable presentation by Adejoh John from AUST’s Computer Engineering department on "Data Governance: Implications of Contemporary AI and Robotic Trends for Development."
The panel also included insights from Abiola Jimoh, CEO of XChangebox and an MSc Public Policy student at AUST, who joined online.
Additional contributions were made by Dr. Nsikak Owoh from Glasgow Caledonian University, UK, and Khadijah El-Usman, Senior Programmes Officer at Paradigm Initiative.
Participants from AUST, including Biodun Ogundipe from the Business Administration Department, Bolade Igbagbo (HR Manager), Sonia Obi (Admissions Office), Egbele Esele (Accounts Department), and Tunde Ogundipe (student), received valuable training on data governance during the workshop.
This event underscored the increasing importance of data protection and governance in the contemporary digital era. It provided a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices, aiming to foster national and regional development through effective data management strategies.
