CPDI AFRICA Embarks On Africa's Rich Architectural Designs Awareness Campaigns
The Community Planning and Design Initiative AFRICA CPDI Africa, a culture-inspired research-oriented organization, committed to the development of new African and Diaspora architectural languages that are culturally and environmentally sustainable has commenced awareness campaigns aimed at showcasing Africa’s rich architectural designs and heritage at its hub at the Mandela House, African University of Science and Technology, AUST, Abuja.
The CPDI AFRICA which earlier in the year signed a partnership agreement with AUST commenced the campaign via a walk through session which attracted the President of AUST and other senior management staff.
In her welcome speech, the Director of CPDI AFRICA, Architect Nmadili Okwumabua, said that the walk through session was put together to showcase what the center is all about, its prospects and future interventions not only in Nigeria but Africa as a whole.
She highlighted the origin of the African architectural designs displayed at the HUB's gallery during the walk-through session maintaining that the architectural designs originated from African historical arts created by African artists and architects.
In his response, The AUST Acting President, Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, expressed his delight on the partnership which the university has entered into with the CPDI AFRICA and urged everyone present to avail himself or herself of the opportunities provided to the fullest.
Prof. Onwualu enjoine the different heads of departments more especially those in civil engineering department to ensure they work hand in hand with the hub and its team and opined that in the near future that the CPDI HUB in AUST campus will become the center of research for AUST engineering students and foreign engineers.
In attendance at the epoch-making show were the followings; Prof. David Hughes from the Kent State University, Ohio, United States of America; Arc. Chibuzor Ohaneye; Arc Amina Ibrahim; Mr. Osayuki Jegede; Mr. Onuh James and Ms. Chinonyelum Akaokeke who represented the CPDI AFRICA hub , while the AUST President was joined by Mr. Ben Okonkwo, Bursar/Financial Director; Mr. Osoba Inegbenose, Academic Registrar; Dr. Abdulhakeem Bello, Director, Academic Planning; Dr. Vitalis Anye, Acting Dean, School of Engineering and Coordinator, AUSTinpire; Dr. Prisca Onuoha, AUST CPD short courses controller; Mrs. Bolade Igbagbo, Head, Human Resources and Logistics; Mrs. Nsimah Joseph, Coordinator, Students Affairs. Mrs. Murna Opatola, Associate Director, Operations; Mrs. Onyebuchi Ekpolomo; Chief Librarian; Prince Obioha Atulomah, Head, Media Services; Dr. David Afolayan; Dr. Leo Morgan Akpan all resident Faculty, AUST amongst other staff members.
