AUST Records Outstanding Success in NUC Accreditation Exercise

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, is celebrating an impressive achievement following the release of the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation results for the October/November 2025 exercise.

In an official communication dated 7 April 2026, the NUC conveyed the outcome of the comprehensive evaluation, carried out in line with its mandate to ensure quality assurance and uphold academic standards across Nigerian universities.

The results highlight AUST’s strong commitment to excellence, with a significant number of its programmes securing Full Accreditation across key academic disciplines.

In the Administration and Management category, Business Administration earned Full Accreditation, while Accounting was granted Interim Accreditation.

The Computing discipline delivered an exceptional performance, as both Computer Science and Software Engineering programmes were awarded Full Accreditation, reinforcing AUST’s growing standing in technology and innovation.

Equally noteworthy is the remarkable success recorded in the Engineering and Technology programmes. Petroleum and Energy Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering all secured Full Accreditation, a clear testament to the university’s robust teaching, research capacity, and infrastructure in these critical fields.

Full Accreditation is valid for a period of five years, reflecting the Commission’s confidence in the quality and sustainability of the programmes. Interim Accreditation, granted for two years, provides an opportunity for further strengthening.

Reacting to this great success, the President of the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, thanked the NUC accreditation team for a good job well done and extended the university's appreciation to the NUC's Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu for giving his nod which paved way for this great news.

Professor Onwualu, warmly welcomed the results, viewing them as a strong endorsement of the university’s academic standards and its mission to produce globally competitive graduates.

He also commended the untiring efforts of the AUST community led by the Director, Academic Planning, Dr. Abdulhakeem Bello which led to the huge success recorded in this accreditation exercise and urged all not to relent.

The African University of Science and Technology, Abuja was established in 2007 as a private university by the Nelson Mandela Institution as a pan African initiative, with support from the World Bank, African Development Bank, African Capacity Building Foundation and Nigerian Federal Government. The main focus of the university is post graduate education in STEM using a unique model of Professors from international partner universities, supported by those within Nigeria. The undergraduate programmes were started in 2022 using the same approach of project based learning used for the post graduate programmes. A university based innovation hub (AUSTInspire) and University Industry Advisory Board are some of the instruments used to ensure that the graduates are industry ready.

With detailed reports provided by the NUC to guide continuous improvement, AUST remains firmly on course in its pursuit of academic distinction and innovation.
