The African University of Science and Technology(AUST), Abuja and Herbal Point Services are to partner on herbal medicine packaging, teabags encapsulation, training, identification, and sourcing of medicinal plants.

This was disclosed by Dr. Prisca Onuoha shortly after a courtesy call by the Acting President of AUST, Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS to the Chief Executive Officer/Director of the Herbal Point Services, Associate Professor Hadiza Nuhu in her office in Abuja recently.

Welcoming the AUST Acting President and his team, the CEO/Director of the Herbal point Services, Associate Professor Hadiza Nuhu, expressed her profound excitement and gratitude for the visit by the AUST Acting  President and his entourage.

She requested for a mutual collaboration between her company and the university and identified packaging, teabags, encapsulation, training, identification, and sourcing of medicinal plants as clear areas of partnership.

The Herbal Point Services boss stressed that her company was formed for the development of Nigeria medicine and plants for better Health and Well-being thereby paving the way for various researches by the center in the production of medicinal plants.

She listed some of the achievements of the company to  include; twenty-two drugs formulations, distribution of the products in 6 states in Nigeria, production of the first ever drug that was registered by NAFDAC, 4 retail outlets, drugs and tea for treatments and control of high blood pressure, ulcer, typhoid to mention but few.

In his response, Prof. Onwualu thanked Associate Prof. Nuhu for the warm reception accorded him and his team and applauded her efforts in setting up such an imperative company.

Professor Onwualu, while granting her request for collaboration,  stated that the university has not commenced offering the Health Science or Pharmacy yet, but that the university would collaborate with her company through the AUSTinspire HUB, where short programs, Training/ Product development and Marketing has been running since 2022.

According to her, the mission of her company is the development of Nigeria Medicine and Plants for better Health and Well-being while the goal is to be a leading research center for the production of medicinal plants. Some of the achievements of the company includes: twenty-two drugs’ formulations, distribution of its products in 6 states in Nigeria, production of the first ever drug that was registered by NAFDAC, 4 retail outlets, drugs and tea for the  treatment and control of high blood pressure, ulcer, typhoid to mention but few.

Prof Nuhu and her team took the President and his team round the various facilities at the company. The places visited include the  herbarium, where plants are identified and safely named and kept, the boardroom, the director’s office, production units, which includes various machines for encapsulation, bagging section, and packaging and to the warehouse, where the tea and drugs produced are stored before distributions.

Professor Onwualu was accompanied on the visit by Dr. Prisca Onuoha, AUST short courses lead, Mr. Solomon Ibrahim, Personal Assistant to the Acting President and budget officer while Prof. Nuhu was joined by Mr. Kolawole Abdullateef, production manager;Mr. Abbas Suleiman       assistant Operator; Ms. Hvdallah Idris, training manager; Mr. Abrar  general manager; Mr. Nizamodeen, personal assistant to the CEO.
