AfricaX Summit 2026 to Boost Innovation, Investment and Collaboration in Africa
The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, has announced that the AfricaX Summit 2026 will serve as a major platform for advancing innovation, investment and collaboration across the continent.
Speaking at a press briefing, the President of AUST, Prof.Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, alongside the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Mr. Kingsley Ogwudu, said the summit reflects growing efforts to strengthen Africa’s innovation ecosystem through stronger partnerships between researchers, investors and policymakers.
Scheduled to hold from 27 to 29 April 2026 at AUST, Abuja, the summit is themed “Reshaping the Future of Africa through Innovation, Investment and Collaboration.” It will bring together stakeholders from across Africa, including innovators, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, development partners and government agencies.
Prof. Onwualu stressed the importance of transitioning Africa from a consumer of technology to a producer of solutions, particularly in sectors such as healthcare, energy, education and climate change. He called for increased venture capital investment, improved policy incentives and stronger implementation of existing research and innovation frameworks.
He also highlighted the need for greater budgetary allocation to research and development, noting that current funding levels remain low, while stressing the importance of bridging the gap between research and commercialisation.
Mr. Ogwudu described the summit as a strategic platform designed to connect ideas with funding and partnerships needed for scaling impactful solutions. He noted that it will focus on key areas including strengthening innovation systems, expanding investment opportunities, empowering youth and women, and enhancing public–private collaboration.
According to the organisers, the summit has secured partnerships with key institutions and agencies, and will also feature an interactive digital platform to connect innovators and investors across the continent.
Both speakers emphasised that AfricaX is an annual initiative aimed at building a sustainable continental innovation network, with future editions expected to rotate across African countries.
They urged innovators, investors and policymakers to actively participate in the summit, which they say will position Abuja as a growing hub for innovation and knowledge exchange in Africa.
