The African University of Science and Technology (AUST) reinforced its presence on the global stage during the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), themed: “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”

Ms. Lizzy Ulunma Asomugha, Acting Head of Department of General Studies at AUST,used the United Nations General Assembly to amplify its visibility and connect with world leaders, policymakers, and industry figures.

During the event, Ms. Asomugha anchored, moderated, and served as a panelist at multiple sessions which provided opportunities to represent the university, build meaningful connections, and create visibility for the institution on a global scale.

A key highlight was a session that brought together distinguished personalities familiar with AUST, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, AUST’s pioneer Board Chair and Director General, World Trade Organization (WTO); Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and other eminent leaders. These leaders commended Ms. Asomugha upon learning of her affiliation with AUST.

Beyond personal professional growth, Ms. Asomugha used the ample opportunity in promoting AUST at every opportunity, ensuring the university remained central in global conversations that matter. “For me, every global platform is an opportunity to showcase AUST,” she stated, underscoring the institution’s commitment to international visibility and impact.
