ABUJA, NIGERIA — The business and innovation hub of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, AUSTInspire, has announced the commencement of another cohort in professional Data Sciences scheduled to run from September 25 to December 18, 2026.
The 12-week intensive initiative which would take place on Fridays and Saturdays, aims to address the rapidly growing global demand for data professionals by training African practitioners to extract valuable insights from complex, multi-source datasets.
According to the university’s concept note, the curriculum covers a comprehensive data science ecosystem designed to drive digital transformation. Participants will master core Python programming libraries, including TensorFlow, NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas. Additionally, the training spans supervised machine learning classification techniques, unsupervised clustering models, relational database management using MySQL, big data challenges, and cloud computing via AWS. Students will also learn to structure and present their empirical findings in standard research formats using LaTeX.
To bridge the gap between academic theory and industry applications, the program features a distinguished global faculty. Instructors include Dr. Basiru Usman, a Teaching Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University, and Dr. Segun Aroyehun, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Konstanz. They will be joined by Dr. Abdulmalik Usman Bello, Dean, School of Sciences and Director of the Charles Chidume Mathematics Institute of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja. The training team is further supported by specialized doctoral fellows Auta Jonathan and Halima Yusuf.
Interested participants are required to possess basic computer proficiency and have a device capable of running Microsoft Excel, Python Jupyter notebooks, and MySQL.
