The African University of Science and Technology (AUST) has hosted an orientation programme for the newly admitted foundation students, providing essential information on academic requirements, registration procedures, financial obligations, student support services and campus safety.
Dr. Abdulmalik Usman Bello, Dean, School of Science and Science Education and Head of Department, Mathematics Institute and Dean, School of Foundation and Remedial Studies (SFRS), introduced the academic details of the programme, stressing the importance of regular attendance, punctuality, discipline and active participation in lectures.
He encouraged the students to take full responsibility for their learning, seek clarification from lecturers and prepare thoroughly for assessments and examinations.
Students were informed that the nine-month programme runs from October to July, with a minimum attendance requirement of 75 per cent for eligibility to sit final examinations.
The session also covered continuous assessment, practical coursework, subject combinations and the requirements for progression to the 200 level.
Other sessions provided guidance on tuition fees and payment arrangements, online registration, ICT services, library resources, accommodation and campus security. Students were encouraged to make effective use of the university’s learning facilities, conduct independent research and uphold the institution’s rules and regulations.
The orientation programme came to a close with a call on the participating students to remain focused, manage their time effectively and take advantage of the academic and support services available to help them succeed throughout their studies in AUST.
