Over 220 participants, comprising petroleum industry professionals, academics and students, gathered in Abuja for a technical workshop focused on advancing knowledge in subsurface evaluation and environmental sustainability.
The NAPE Abuja Chapter North Central Cluster A Technical Workshop, themed “Discovery to Sustainability: Integrating Subsurface Evaluation and Environmental Stewardship,” was held on Saturday, 8 August 2026, at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja.
The workshop, the first of the planned NAPE Abuja Chapter Cluster Programmes, was organised to bring technical and capacity-building initiatives closer to members, particularly those in the Northern region.
The technical sessions featured four breakout sessions led by industry experts, covering Post Oil Spill Impact Assessment, Well Log and Seismic Interpretation, Estimating Hydrocarbon Volume, and Geological Modelling Workflow.
The programme attracted professionals and representatives from organisations including NNPC Energy Services, NNPC-RTI, NUPRC, NOSDRA, NGSA, Juvicle and SEEPCO, alongside representatives of sponsoring organisations.
Academic participation was also strong, with HODs, senior lecturers and students from about ten universities, including NSUK, IBBU Lapai, FUT Minna, FULAFIA, University of Abuja, Federal University Lokoja, Bingham University, ABU Zaria and AUST.
The President of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, and Management of AUST were present at the event.
Prof. Onwualu, reaffirmed its commitment to its partnership with NAPE, including completing the registration of its student chapter and supporting students who emerged winners of the monthly quiz while the NAPE President and other national leadership participated virtually.
Juvicle Energy Resources Ltd pledged support towards student membership and conference participation, reinforcing the workshop’s focus on nurturing the next generation of professionals.
The workshop provided participants with opportunities for technical learning, mentorship, industry exposure and networking, and concluded with positive feedback from attendees.
The NAPE Abuja Chapter expressed appreciation to the AUST Management, NAPE leadership, sponsors, speakers, participating institutions, industry professionals and all stakeholders whose contributions made the programme a success.
