On Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) hosted an excursion for students from SOS Herman High School.
The President of AUST, Prof. Peter Azikiwe Onwualu, warmly welcomed the students and expressed his delight in having them visit the university.
In his welcome address, Prof. Onwualu highlighted the university’s international diversity, with students and lecturers from various countries. He emphasized that AUST is committed to project-based learning, where students design and build innovative solutions to real-world problems.
The Principal of SOS Herman High School, Mr. Innocent Peter, expressed his gratitude to the President and management staff of AUST for the opportunity. He noted that the experience had motivated the students to explore their potential and strive for excellence.
The Head of Department (HOD) for Computer Science, Dr. Felix Ale, spoke about the university’s faculty of engineering, computing, and management. He highlighted the university’s focus on practical learning, industry-standard programming languages, and software development.
The HOD for Mathematics, Dr. AbdulMalik Usman Bello, emphasized the importance of problem-solving skills and encouraged the students to make informed choices about their academic pursuits.
The HOD for Material Science and Engineering, Dr. Vitalis Anye, discussed the department’s focus on adding value to natural and synthetic materials. He highlighted the university’s state-of-the-art laboratories and diverse range of engineering programs.
Finally, the representative from the School of Foundation and Remedial Studies discussed the university’s alternative admission routes, including the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) program. This program provides students with a pathway to gain admission into 200-level programs at AUST or other affiliated universities.
