SOS Herman High School Students Visit AUST

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) welcomed students from SOS Herman High School for an educational excursion.

AUST President, Prof. Peter Azikiwe Onwualu, FAS, warmly received the students and expressed his delight at their visit.

In his welcome address, he highlighted the university’s international diversity, with students and lecturers from various countries. He pointed out AUST’s commitment to project-based learning, where students design and develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Mr. Innocent Peter, Principal of SOS Herman High School, expressed gratitude to AUST’s leadership for the opportunity. He noted that the visit had inspired the students to explore their potentials and strive for academic excellence.

Faculty members present introduced the students to various disciplines. Dr. Felix Ale, Head of the Computer Science Department, unveiled the university’s computer science department . He highlighted AUST’s focus on hands-on learning, industry-standard programming languages, and software development, Dr. AbdulMalik Usman Bello, Head of the Mathematics Department, underscored the importance of problem-solving skills and encouraged students to make informed academic choices, Dr. Vitalis Anye, Acting Dean, School of Engineering and Head of the Materials Science and Engineering Department, spoke about the department’s work in enhancing natural and synthetic materials. He also showcased AUST’s state-of-the-art laboratories and diverse engineering programs.

Mr. Fedtus Tobi from the School of Foundation and Remedial Studies introduced the university’s alternative admission pathways, including the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) program, which allows students to gain direct entry into 200-level programs at AUST and other affiliated universities.

The excursion provided students with valuable insights on the  education opportunities at AUST, motivating them to pursue excellence in their academic and professional aspirations.
