AUST Trains Admin Staff On Human Capacity Building

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, concluded a vibrant four-day training course for its administrative staff, marking a significant step towards enhancing work-place efficiency and leadership skills.
The training which was held from September 29th to October 3rd at the NNPC Hall, brought together AUST admin staff, corp members, and interns from the various departments of the university.
Declaring the training open, the President of the African University of Science and Technology, (AUST) Abuja, Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, emphasized the university’s commitment to staff development.
Following this, Dr. Prisca Onouha, Head of CPD and the Head, Human Resources, Mrs. Bolade Igbagbo, declared the training’s purpose, outlining its goal to equip participants with modern administrative tools and leadership qualities to drive AUST’s mission forward.
Day one immersed attendees in the world of computing and IT skills, led by Mr. Bidemi Abiodun, Head of ICT.
His session was a whirlwind tour of essential tools, covering Google Forms, Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and other software, alongside online collaboration platforms.
Mr. Abiodun’s all-encompassing approach left participants eager to apply their new skills, fostering a hands-on learning environment.
The second day shifted focus to self-leadership, with Dr. Esele Akahbue at the helm. He guided participants through self-awareness exercises and explored personality traits, encouraging staff to reflect on their strengths.
The session sparked lively discussions, as participants shared personal insights, laying a foundation for personal growth.
On the third day, Mr. Arome Emmanuel Sanni took the stage to address time management and staff productivity.
His practical tips on prioritizing tasks and optimizing work flows resonated deeply, with attendees noting immediate benefits.
The session’s interactive nature allowed for real-time problem-solving, strengthening the group’s ability to handle daily pressures.
The final day, October 3rd, concluded with a dynamic session on social media management, content creation, and meeting scheduling. The facilitator, Mr. Solomon Onalo, blended theory with practice, teaching staff how to design engaging posts and organize efficient meetings.
The training underscored the university’s investment in its workforce as it rigorously explained and highlighted on curriculum: Self Leadership, Time Management and Work Flow, Communication and Teamwork, Ms Office/Google Work Space, and Social Media Management.
Prof. Onwualu later reflected, “This training reflects AUST’s dedication to excellence.
Our staff are now better equipped to lead and innovate.” Participants echoed this sentiment, with one administrative staff noting, “The IT skills will transform how I work at AUST.”
The event’s success was evident in the engaged faces and active participation, from NNPC Hall’s early mornings to its final afternoon.
AUST’s commitment shone through, with sessions blending practical skills and leadership development. The training not only enhanced administrative capabilities but also reinforced AUST’s role as a leader in staff empowerment, setting the stage for future phases of this impactful program.
