NSE Executive Committee Visits AUST

Abuja, Nigeria – July 24, 2025 — The Executive Committee of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) paid a courtesy  visit to the President of African University of Science and Technology ( AUST), Abuja, Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS.

While in AUST, the committee visited the Center for Urban Transportation Studies (CUTS).

The visit marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the academia and the engineering community in Nigeria.

In his opening remarks, the  Chief Executive Officer of CUTS, Engr. Christopher N.Chigboh, FNSE,P.E expressed his gratitude to the NSE committee for their interest in the Center’s work.

He highlighted the importance of inclusive infrastructure, noting that “developed countries build homes and public spaces with accessibility in mind, ensuring that even people with disabilities have unhindered access.

He praised the AUST leadership under  Professor Onwualu for his visionary leadership and support, which played a crucial role in establishing the Center.

Leading the NSE delegation was Engr. Ahmed Kutigi, FNSE, Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

He was accompanied on the visit by Engr. Yusuf Manasseh, Engr. M.B. Guna, Engr. Paul B. Anyu, and Engr. Mrs. Mistura Aderike Rafiu.

In his address, Engr. Kutigi expressed delight at the progress made in AUST and the CUTS facility, commending the university’s leadership for its proactive engagement with the engineering sector.

Engr. Kutigi also spoke about NSE’s upcoming initiatives aimed at nurturing innovation among young engineers.

He noted that the society is planning  some programs to encourage creative thinking and problem-solving among emerging professionals.

Welcoming the NSE committee, the AUST President, thanked the NSE team for their visit.

He reiterated the university's eagerness to partner with the NSE.

“We are committed to bridging the gap between the academia and professional bodies like NSE.

The AUST President was joined by Dr. Bello Abdulhakeem,DAP ,  Dr. Olusegun Toluhi from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and Dr. Vitalis Anye, Acting Dean,  School of Engineering.

The visitors were taken on a tour of the university's facilities where they visited CPDI Center for Afrocentric Design Advancement (CADA).

Both parties expressed optimism for future collaborations, with Prof. Onwualu inviting the NSE to submit proposals for joint initiatives that could benefit both the academic community and the broader society.
