CPDI-AUST Opens Center: Promises Collaborative Approach To Science and Technology
The Community Planning and Design Initiative (CPDI), Africa at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja has opened its Afrocentric Designs Center.
The epoch-making ceremony took place at the Center’s hub, Mandela House, African University of Science and Technology, Abuja attracted world renowned architects, designers and other dignitaries from all walks of life.
In her welcome speech, the Center Leader, Nmadili Okwumabua thanked the AUST President for providing a suitable space for the center. She also expressed her appreciation to everyone that came for the grand opening ceremony.
She explained that the Center would serve as a platform for architects and designers to collaborate by ensuring the creation of sustainable cultural landscapes. According to her "We are proud to be part of this trans-formative initiative and look forward to contributing our expertise to its success"
Furthermore, Okwumabua outlined CPDI's educational offerings, including a comprehensive curriculum aimed at equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge to excel in the field of architecture and design.
Afterwards, Okwumabua extended the center’s invitation for membership and partnership, in its mission to drive Africa’s architectural designs to an enviable height.
In his remarks, the President of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS congratulated CPDI and the Center leader for their vision in opening this center.
He stated that the opening of the center was a bold step towards fostering a culture of innovation and creativity and signifies our commitment in harnessing the power of science and technology in addressing pressing challenges and driving meaningful changes.
According to Prof. Onwualu, the objectives of the center is to converge scientists,technologists and innovators with focus on leveraging disciplines to create tangible solutions for societal benefit through multi-disciplinary approach.
"We believe that by bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, we can unlock new pathways for innovation, create a catalyst for collaboration and the creation of solutions that have the potential to transform lives." Onwualu enthused.
The event featured arts of architecture, the architecture of Demas Nwoko and digital exhibition of celebrated Nigerian–Centric Designers among others.
