AUST, SCCRN Strengthen Ties for Future Collaborations

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, and the Society for Cement and Concrete Researchers In Nigeria (SCCRIN) are exploring stronger collaborative ties to enhance academic and research development between the two institutions.

This move was reinforced during a thank you visit by the President of SCCRIN, Dr. Kolawole Adisa Olonade, to the President of AUST, Prof. Peter Azikiwe Onwualu, FAS.

Dr. Olonade, who is  a faculty at the Civil Engineering department of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), expressed deep appreciation for the support and presence of the AUST community during the recently concluded conference hosted by SCCRIN in Abuja on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

He noted that the partnership between AUST and UNILAG was pivotal to the success of the events and emphasized the importance of sustaining such collaborations going forward.

According to him, “The synergy between AUST and UNILAG sets a strong foundation for impactful academic initiatives, and we look forward to more joint activities that will benefit the scientific community and the built environment sector in Africa.”

In his response, Prof. Peter Azikiwe Onwualu warmly welcomed the SCCRIN delegation and expressed AUST’s eagerness to continue and expand collaborative efforts with UNILAG, SCCRIN.

He emphasized the strategic value of inter-institutional partnerships in advancing research and capacity building in sustainable infrastructure.

According to the AUST President, the conference demonstrated the great potential of collaboration. Our institutions must continue to work together to solve real-world problems and create innovations that serve Society.

He reaffirmed AUST’s commitment to working closely with SCCRIN and UNILAG in organizing future academic events, joint research projects, and professional training programs.

The climax of the visit was the presentation of a souvenir to the AUST President by the SCCRIN President, Dr. Olonade.

Dr. Olonade was accompanied on the visit by Engr. Olumo Sharafadeen and Engr. Shittu Adekola of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers ( (NICE), Abuja office while  Mr. Ben Okonkwo, Bursar; Prince Obioha Atulomah, Head of Media Services and PR; Mrs. Buchi Ekpolomo, Head of Library Services; Mrs. Bolade Igbagbo, Head of HR/Logistics; Ms. Blessing Iweha, Media Assistant; and Mr. Kingsley Ogwudu, Manager, AustinSpire joined the AUST President in receiving the visitors.
