President Onwualu Harps On Digital Literacy To Young Innovators

Abuja, Nigeria – August 5, 2025
The President of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu FAS, has stressed on the importance of digital literacy in nation building.
He made this charge while flagging open the Summer booth camp on AI organized by the AUSTinspire hub.
President Onwualu emphasized the importance of digital literacy in today’s world, particularly the role of coding as a foundation for innovation.
According to him “Coding is like learning a new language, Just as we learn languages beyond English, coding gives us the ability to speak to machines, to write instructions that can control devices like drones and other digital tools.” he enthused.
He encouraged the students to fully engage in the opportunity, noting that the skills acquired at the boot camp could be life-changing. “This program he stated is a wonderful opportunity as kearning these skills today will place you far ahead in the next five years"
Highlighting AUST’s commitment to technology, the President stated, “Everything we do here at AUST is technology-driven. Even in our social science programs, technology plays a central role.”
He concluded by inspiring the students to consider AUST as a future academic home. “As you continue your educational journey, I hope to see many of you return as full-time students. Before you leave today, try to create something, a simple app that you can show your parents. Let them see what you’ve learned.”
The boot camp, anchored by Mrs. Oby C. Apeh, introduced the participants to the world of digital devices, coding basics, and app development. Students explored how technology can be harnessed to solve real-world problems and took their first steps in becoming the next generation of African innovators.
