AUST,NIOB Partner In The Training Of Construction Managers

Abuja, Nigeria – July 5, 2025, The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Abuja Branch, has flagged off a new Construction Management Program aimed at addressing the growing skills gap in Nigeria’s building and construction sector.
The launch, which took place on Saturday, July 5, at the AUST Inspire Conference Room, brought together university leadership, industry professionals, and representatives from NIOB. The initiative is part of AUST’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) efforts to strengthen professional training across critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Dr. Prisca Nneka Onuoha, CPD Coordinator at AUST, opened the event by highlighting the urgent need for structured and standardized training in the construction field. She praised the partnership with NIOB as a strategic move to ensure that professionals are equipped with both academic knowledge and practical expertise“This collaboration is not just timely—it is necessary,” Dr. Onuoha said. “Through this program, we aim to raise the bar for quality and professionalism in the building industry.”
In his keynote address, AUST President Professor Peter Azikiwe Onwualu encouraged participants to embrace the program with seriousness and to build meaningful connections during the course of their training. He emphasized the importance of developing both technical and managerial competence to drive industry growth and innovation.
The Construction Management Program, now open for enrollment, is tailored for professionals and aspiring leaders in the construction industry. It focuses on equipping participants with essential skills in project planning, execution, quality control, and resource management—bridging the gap between theory and real-world practice.
Attendees were given a detailed overview of the course content, delivery methods, and expected learning outcomes. The session ended with an engaging networking segment, allowing facilitators and participants to connect and discuss the future of construction training in Nigeria.
