AUST, ODYSSEY Educational Foundation Host Digital Literacy Training for Higher Education Staff

Abuja, Nigeria – August 18, 2025 – The Gender  Committee of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja in partnership with Odyssey Educational Foundation, organized a digital literacy workshop aimed at equipping higher education staff with essential 21st-century digital learning and teaching skills.

In his welcome address, the President of AUST, Abuja, Prof.  Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS stressed on the importance of digital learning for both junior and senior staff.

He charged the participants to apply the knowledge gained from this training to improve their daily work.

Onwualu, shared a nostalgic reflection on how, in earlier years, people had to queue to use a desktop computer, compared to today’s easy access to laptops and mobile devices.

The AUST boss expressed his appreciation to the facilitators and the university's Gender Committee for driving the initiative, urging staff to practice and maximize all the lessons learned.

The workshop was moderated by Engr. Stella Uzochukwu, who encouraged participants to keep an open mind as they explore new tools and technologies to better their job efficiency.

The training covered key areas such as data collection and management,digital communication and promotion,digital tools for production and efficiency and the application of  Artificial Intelligence (AI) for workplace productivity.

The program also x-rayed the transformative role of digital literacy in boosting efficiency, enhancing communication, and driving innovation within the higher education sector.

By building digital capacity among its workforce, AUST continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering staff and fostering a technology-driven academic environment.
