AUST Business Admin.Students Visit Coca-Cola NBC Plant for Industrial Excursion
On Tuesday, 18th November 2025, students of the Department of Business Administration of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, embarked on an enriching industrial excursion to the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) – Coca-Cola Plant in Abuja.
The excursion was designed to provide practical exposure to compliment classroom teachings in Production and Operations.
The visit offered students a firsthand look at modern beverage manufacturing processes, from water treatment and blending to carbonation, filling, capping, and packaging.
Special emphasis was laid on NBC’s automation technologies, safety protocols, hygiene practices, and environmental sustainability efforts, including recycling initiatives.
NBC management welcomed the students with an overview of the company’s partnership with Coca-Cola and its operational footprint across Nigeria. The tour covered material sourcing—including purified water, sugar, carbon dioxide, and packaging—as well as insights into NBC’s logistics and distribution network, featuring depots, distributors, and direct-market strategies.
Faculty members highlighted the academic value of the excursion. Professor Munirat Yusuf noted the importance of seeing global manufacturing standards in practice, while Dr. Ugonna Obi-Emeruwa emphasized the strategic impact of exposing students early to real industrial ecosystems. Dr. Ekaette Glory Edem added that the visit effectively bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world application, especially in production planning and operational efficiency.
Students shared positive feedback, expressing how the experience deepened their understanding of lean production, total quality management, and continuous improvement. For 300-level students, the visit provided valuable early exposure, while 400-level students found it solidified their coursework with practical insight.
Overall, the industrial excursion was a resounding success. It fulfilled its goal of fostering experiential learning, equipping students with sharper analytical skills, real-world awareness, and a clearer vision of potential careers in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
