AUST, BTH Strengthen Global  Strategic Ties

The African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja and the Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH), Karlskrona, Sweden, are to collaborate on strong strategic ties aimed at fostering international academic exchanges.

The President, African University of Science and Technology, Professor Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, FAS, disclosed this while receiving in audience, a team from the Blekings Institute of Technology, Karlskrona, Sweden led by Prof. Shaibu Samson Alhaji during a courtesy visit to the AUST President in his office in Abuja recently.

According to him, the partnership arrangement when put in place would strengthen cooperation between both institutions.

Prof. Onwualu identified key areas of focus including, joint degree pathways, collaborative research initiatives, academic exchange programmes, and capacity development.

 Responding, Prof. Shaibu Samson Alhaji, who is the team lead thanked the AUST President for the warm reception and congratulated him on his appointment as the President of AUST.

He highlighted additional priority disciplines such as software engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as broader computer science fields, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing innovation-driven education and research.

 Prof Shaibu Samson Alhaji, Professor of Media Studies, former Head of Mass Communication at Bingham University, and Sabbatical Fellow at the National Defence College, Abuja was joined to the meeting by Professor Kayode Adekunle, Director, Strategic International Collaborations while the AUST President was joined by Ms. Lizzy Ulunma Asomugha, Acting Head of Department, General Studies, AUST and Ms. Nneoma Obimbonu, Secretary to the AUST President.

 A draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was presented during the visit, with the AUST President assigning further review responsibilities to relevant officers to provide informed guidance on the proposed collaboration.

 The engagement marks a significant milestone in AUST’s efforts to expand its global academic footprint, enhance research impact, and promote inclusive development, particularly in advancing gender inclusion within science and technology fields.

 By strengthening ties with leading international institutions such as BTH, AUST continues to position itself as a hub for cutting-edge research, innovation, and world-class education in Africa.
